Man serving life sentence who defied day release is located in Penzance

A man serving a life sentence for murder who went on the run following day release has been found in Penzance.

David William Gilbert, 56 from Penzance, was jailed for life after being convicted of the murder of his partner in 1997, but was nearing the end of his sentence and was being considered for parole.

On Saturday 22nd September he failed to return to HMP Hewell prison near Redditch in north Worcestershire following day release.

As a result of police enquiries, officers from Devon and Cornwall Police Force Support Group attended an address in the town at 9.15am today.

Gilbert was detained without resistance and was taken into custody in Cornwall pending his return to prison.
