Marazion 10k road race attracts 500 runners
SOME 500 runners will be in action in Sunday's Marazion 10k road race.
The race is organised by Hayle Runners and sponsored by Duchy Hospital. This year the race was once again heavily oversubscribed and full before Christmas and, as in 2012, there will be no entries accepted on the day.
Hayle Runners chairman Alan Shepherd said: "We are delighted the Duchy are supporting us again because it allows Hayle Runners to deliver a quality race for Cornish Runners." It is ninth time the race has been held and is, as in previous years, is one of the events in the Cornwall Glass and Glazing Grand Prix series, the second in this year's programme following the Storm Force 10 at Camborne two weeks ago.
The race starts at 11am near Marazion Community Centre.

The race is run over the back lanes of Plain-an-Gwarry, St Hilary and St Erth before finishing up the testing hill at Gwallon Lane, Marazion. A road closure is in force part way up the hill. Last year the race attracted a record field of quality runners from Cornwall, and out of the county, and was won by Peter Le Grice of Mounts Bay Harriers in a time of 32 minutes 37 seconds, closely followed by Colin Snook of Cornwall Athletics Club, 39 seconds behind.
The first female runner for the fourth consecutive year was Emma Stepto of Cornwall AC in 34m 52 seconds.
Wendy Pascoe, the new Race Director, is confidently looking forward to race day. She said: "Meticulous planning has been undertaken and as always the community of Marazion has been very helpful.
"The feedback on the race last year was very encouraging and for 2013 we have a capacity field of 500 competitors.
"We have been encouraged by the help we have received from local people and organisations.
"Marazion Town Council have once again offered their support and the race would not be possible without the continued help of the Community Centre, Marazion Surgery, Playing Fields Association, St John Ambulance, local farmers and the football club.
"Grand Prix races like the Marazion 10k are major events with safety being a top priority.
"We are grateful to the dozens of volunteers who will be helping on the day to ensure the event is trouble free acting as marshals, manning drink stations and helping with the timing and results."
