Marine students spend a day on the beach with industry professionals
STUDENTS from Cornwall College's Newquay campus spent the day surveying Fistral Beach's rock shoreline as part of a conservation and research project.
The students' work formed part of the Intertidal Discovery Project, a two-year research project hosted by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS).
Rebecca Allen, from Cornwall College Newquay, said: "It is fantastic that the Intertidal Discovery team are able to incorporate working with students as part of their remit, as it provides invaluable experience for our students."
The Intertidal Discovery Project aims to survey and map the shoreline habitats of more than 370km of Cornwall's north coast, in order to obtain scientific data to aid with marine conservation and habitat management.

Students from the marine conservation foundation degree course were given the opportunity to participate in survey work.
Rebecca continued: "The students all had an enjoyable day and were able to relate their academic studies and field skills to the rigours of real-world habitat surveying."
Caz Waddell, Intertidal Discovery project officer, added: "Engaging with students and the wider community is a key objective for our work."
