Maritime museum gets ready for Big Draw
A Westcountry museum is getting ready for a week of action-packed aquatic activities this October half-term.
The fun starts with the Aquatic Art Super-sized Weekend on October 26-27 at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth with art activities inspired by the classic poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
As part of the ‘Big Draw’ children will have the chance to work with art and design students from Falmouth University to build up a sketch book of different techniques throughout the day, including drawing, animation, printmaking and sculpture.
Kirsty Davies, recruitment and outreach co-ordinator at Falmouth University, says: “The Big Draw is an accessible event designed to ignite young peoples' interest in drawing.

From October 28 to November 3 the ‘Big Draw’ aquatic art activities continue, with Falmouth University students hosting a different workshop each day.
Children will also get the chance to make their own porthole pictures, fantastic fish masks and under-the-sea stained glass windows, while on Tuesday and Thursday Douglas Dapper, the Story Explorer will be back for another wet and wild adventure.
And with Halloween in mind, the Maritime Museum is offering a trick or treat tour on October 31 from 6.30pm.
Suitable for children aged five and up, spooky shenanigans are guaranteed making monster masks, bloodcurdling badges and trick or treat baskets before setting off on a torch lit tour to discover the ghosts and ghouls hidden in the museum’s galleries.
Tickets are £5.95 per person but places are limited so please book in advance on 01326 214546.
All the other the activities at the museum over October half-term are free with your entrance ticket.
