The first century of the West of England Bandsman's Festival is being celebrated in a special exhibition at the Cornwall Studies Library.

The first festival took place in 1912 to raise funds for a working men's club in Bugle and was so successful it has been a fixture in the musical life of the clay village ever since, attracting brass bands and spectators from all over Cornwall and far beyond.

Photographs, programmes, letters and memorabilia from the first years of the festival to the present day will offer an insight to the history of the event and the brass bands of Cornwall and elsewhere and their place in the region's social history. The exhibition runs at the Cornish Studies Library in Alma Place, Redruth, from October 2 to 12. Admission free.
