Melissa, a former Richard Lander pupil, came to national attention last summer when she finished second in the World Championships held in Hyde Park, London, the best result of her fledgling career.
Her aim is to represent Great Britain in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro.
Melissa, the junior coach with the Gyllngvase Surf Life Saving and Triathlon Club and a member of the Truo City and Helston swimming clubs, competes in swimming, cycling and running for national events.
Recently she has been training hard with her guide, Alison Nicholas, and the GB selection has come as a massive boost for the new year.
Melissa was born in Nottinghamshire, with a sight defect. She is blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other.
When her family moved to Cornwall, and were based close to the beach at Porthtowan, Melissa took up her interest in surfing, and competed in surf lie saving for Cornwall.
