Keeper Wood denies gutsy Edgcumbe

ST TEATH pulled five points clear at the top of the first division with a 3-2 home win over Edgcumbe thanks to some fine goalkeeping by John Wood.

The home side took a 3-0 lead with two goals from Karl Elliott and a single strike by Neil Polkinghorn, but Edgcumbe deserved credit for battling back with a double strike by Gareth Tutt.

Camelford climbed to third place with a 2-0 home win over Nanpean while Roche lost their unbeaten record, going down 3-1 at home to Kilkhampton.

Camelford took an early lead with a goal from Karl Spillaine and Nathan Mitchell added the second midway through the second half against lowly Nanpean.

Roche, with five wins and four draws from their opening nine league matches, suffered their first defeat despite taking an early lead through 16-year-old Jacob Rowe, who is proving to be a regular scorer for them.

Kilkhampton bounced back to win with two goals from Richard Vanstone, while Carlo Chandler was also on target.

Goal glut

Bottom of the table St Blazey Gate are still looking for their first win of the season despite scoring five goals at home to St Stephen.

The match produced a glut of goals with St Stephen keeping in touch with the leading teams after an 11-5 win.

Craig Coad scored four for the visitors while Derek Truscott hit a hat-trick and the other marksmen were Kyle Willmott, Seth Couch, Courtney Rowe and Andrew Sincock.

Joe Richards scored two for St Blazey Gate with Alaa Sian, Sam Hayne and Mark Williams also on target.

Callington suffered their first defeat in five games, going down 2-1 away to Plymstock United, who have now won their last three.

Plymstock began strongly and went ahead on the half hour through Stuart Clark.

But Callington battled back to equalise after the interval with a goal from Ben Langdon.

Plymstock clinched victory midway through the half, however, with a header from Ricky Harris from a pass by impressive defender Dan Gill.
