Two lanes of the M5 motorway in Somerset were closed yesterday after a lorry carrying tyres caught fire on the northbound carriageway. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received several calls from motorists just after 5am. Four fire engine pumps and a water carrier attended the incident, near Junction 26 at Wellington. There were no reports of any injuries as crews using breathing apparatus, two jets and compressed foam put out the blaze. There was disruption as the road remained closed during a clean-up operation.
