WHERE there's muck, there's brass, they say.

Or, to put it another way, for Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers' Club, where there is dung there is dosh.

The members bagged up, and then sold, manure for £2 a bag to raise funds for their charity this year, Ella's Memory, which aims to improve facilities for grieving parents at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Club members sold the bagged dung to passers-by at Sithney Common Hill, outside Helston.

The club thanked Mike Chilcott for supplying the bags, Rowes for the wooden boxes and Martin Williams, who made sure the dung was available.

The club's press officer, Bex Jenkin, said: "The weekend was a great success and although the final amount raised for Ella's Memory is not yet all collected, the members have already raised more than £1,500."

The club returned to more normal fun on Thursday for a "Girls arrange for boys' night" when the girls arranged a secret task for the boys to take part in. This turned out to be a session with Gillian Sadler, a dance-fitness instructor.
