Saltash back in Cup
SALTASH United have been reinstated into the Cornwall Senior Cup after Falmouth Town were thrown out for fielding an ineligible player.
Falmouth beat the Ashes 3-0 in Saturday's quarter-final but they included, among the substitutes, striker Jamie Mudge.
And Mudge replaced Matt Drummond in the 74th minute with Falmouth already three goals to the good.
Mudge was only registered with the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League as a new signing by Falmouth last Thursday – and under Cornwall Senior Cup rules, he should not have been involved in the tie at Kimberley Stadium.
On the Cornwall FA website, the rules state: "In ALL Rounds of ALL County Competitions a player shall be a 'registered and recognised playing member of his Club'.
"A registered member is one who is registered with the League in which his Club/Team competes in the current season. A recognised playing member is one who has actually played in a recognised League or Cup game for the club in the current season."
As Mudge had not played for Falmouth before Saturday, the Cornwall FA looked into the matter and found that Falmouth had breached the rules and were therefore removed from the competition.
The semi-final draw was meant to be released on Monday evening, but Cornwall FA said there would be a delay. A spokesman said: "Team sheets from Saturday are in the process of being verified."
Carlsberg South West Peninsula League secretary Phil Hiscox confirmed to Guardian Sport yesterday morning: "The CCFA have asked me to check all players that played on Saturday for Falmouth."
Holders Bodmin Town are still on course for their third successive Senior Cup triumph after their 6-1 win at Penryn on Saturday. Match report, Page 100.
Liskeard's quarter-final against St Austell at Lux Park, postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch, was due to be played last night.
