National Trust wins approval for Lanhydrock cycle trails
Cornwall Council has given the green light to plans by the National Trust to create 10km of off road cycle trails at Lanhydrock near Bodmin.
There was strong opposition within the parish to the proposals, with residents fearing traffic congestion caused by an increase in visitor numbers would ruin the tranquil environment in and around the estate.
The local authority's Strategic Planning Committee approved the plans today which also include a new cafe and cycle hire business, plus more parking facilities.
The National Trust says the introduction of the cycling hub at Lanhydrock will provide additional facilities for visitors, give families a more varied day out, and provide a facility that local groups and schools can benefit from throughout the year.

The trust insists the cycle trails will be sympathetic to natural and archaeological features and have been designed to minimise impact on other woodland users.
Nick Lawrence, the assistant director for the National Trust said: "We are thrilled that we have been given the green light by Cornwall Council to improving our range of facilities and improve access at Lanhydrock, one of our flagship properties in the South West.
" This project is an absolute priority for the region; we believe it will offer significant local public benefit and the introduction of off road cycle trails will play a key part in our aim to get visitors outdoors and closer to nature."

Cardinham Woods and The Camel Trail are "great places for families and cyclists to enjoy".
You sound like the very type of person who has moved to Cornwall in the last 10 years for the "special qualities and uniqueness" and sought to change it to be like the place you left behind !
Kevin Lavery being the main culprit and presiding over the council that has allowed this planning application to proceed.
And if being loyal to my home county and preventing it being ruined is interpretted as being "miserable " then I am guilty as charged.”

One of the quieter parts to enjoy the countryside is now going to be over run by "Yar Yar's" from the home counties driving Audis too fast around the lanes .
Coupled with the anti-dog attitude of the National Trust it is another attack on law abiding dog owners.
I think I will start exercising my dog on the formal gardens at the main house !
The Camel Trail and Cardinham woods serve the cyclists well, the area didn't need another cycle track.”
