Navy air base and youth cafe join forces
A youth cafe in West Cornwall has won a grant of more than £30,000 from the Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant Scheme.
The Furry Youth Cafe in Helston will use the £32,253 to introduce a peer mentoring scheme between young people who are youth cafe users and young people from the armed forces community linked to RNAS Culdrose.
There are also plans to provide a mini bus service to reach young people in outlying areas so that they can get involved in the activities on offer at the youth cafe.
Cornwall Council portfolio holder for public protection and community safety Lance Kennedy, chairman of the community covenant grant panel, said: "This is a great application and everyone on the panel could see the benefits of supporting the initiatives proposed by the Furry Youth Cafe."

The grant scheme was set up to provide funding to help communities undertake projects that promote greater understanding between the military and the general public. Cornwall was one of the first in the country to establish a scheme under a Government initiative which will provide up to £30 million in grants over four years.
