New Newlyn choir set to launch for 2014
ANYONE who feels like singing is invited to join Cornwall's newest choir.
The Newlyn group's first session was due to take place yesterday morning.
It's led by Sophie Halling, who already runs two other choirs in west Cornwall and says she's looking forward to getting even more people involved in singing together for pleasure.
Inclusiveness was paramount, she said: "It's for everyone. Anyone can sing and get involved. It's just for the joy of singing, there's no pressure – but of course it'd be great to do performances at a later stage.

"I've been asked for ages to do one in the daytime – I'm finally doing it and am really excited. It's really good fun; I do it for the love of music and hopefully lots of people will get involved."
Miss Halling, who works full-time in music, has run the Barbed Choir in Penzance and Raise The 'Ruth in Redruth for years, and said the Newlyn choir would perform a blend of pop, rock and folk, with vocal training offered to get first-timers into the swing of it.
Rehearsals will be held at The Centre, part of the town's Methodist church, which she said was a great venue.
"I wanted to start it in Newlyn because we'd done some evenings in the Centre and they're really good people," she said. "I just like the place and thought it would be a great step. "Singing in a choir is a great way to get fit and healthy in the new year. There are loads of health benefits."
Sessions take place at 10.30am on Wednesdays at The Centre and cost £4.
