New Truro lounge bar The Nightjar lands next week
TRURO'S newest lounge bar will be opening its doors on Old Bridge Street on the evening of Friday, August 23.
The Nightjar has taken over the building which was previously occupied by Experience Wine.
The space has been stripped bare and transformed into a stylish lounge bar with decor and furnishings that represent a bygone era.
The interior features soft mocha hues that complement the bar’s chocolate brown leather bar stools and sofas, while low lighting and individual lamps create a soothing intimate environment for coffee in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening.

Wooden tables are adorned with candles that create an inviting atmosphere in the evenings, and the original 1930s upright piano and padded bar front sets the scene of a classic gentlemen’s club bar.
The large hand-drawn map of old Cornwall on the back wall is the focal point as you enter the bar and its position above the small stage creates the perfect backdrop for live music performances.
Combining the old with the new, the breakfast bar is a great spot to sit and work while utilising the free fibre optic broadband and free coffee re-fills.
As one of Truro’s only lounge bars, The Nightjar boasts an extensive wine, spirit and cocktail menu which has been carefully crafted to offer an array of unique drinks, rich in vibrant flavours.
These range from Cornwall’s Tarquin’s Dry Gin and Old J rum, to Smokey Old Fashioneds and other cocktails that are served in silver-plated julep cups, evoking the “golden era” of the 1930s and 1940s.
Open daily from 11am to 11pm (Sundays until 10pm), The Nightjar also has a licence until midnight to sell bottles of wine and beer that can be enjoyed off the premises.
The Nightjar is a joint venture between friends Rob Daniels-March and Gary James.
After moving to Truro five years ago, Rob, who currently serves in the Royal Air Force, was keen to establish a permanent base in Cornwall where his family and friends live.
The opportunity soon arose after the two friends discussed their ideas over drinks and the idea of The Nightjar was born.
By combining Gary’s bar management skills and extensive cocktail knowledge and Rob’s experience of working in military bars over the years, the two friends decided to create a lounge-style venue where people can focus on conversation and high quality drinks within an intimate setting.
“Truro has many great bars but we felt there was a niche in the market for a venue that offers a relaxed environment, day or night,” explained Rob.
“We will be offering a wide selection of classic and hand-crafted cocktails, as well as premium wines and spirits. We hope that our relaxed ambience will entice people to come and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.”
