New artistic director will lead vision for Tate St Ives
TATE St Ives has appointed a passionate contemporary arts patron, publisher, curator and thinker to the role of artistic director.
Sam Thorne is currently associate editor at Frieze Magazine, a tutor at the Royal College of Art and a founding director of Open School East, a free-to-attend art school in East London.
Sam has a diverse background in publishing, curating exhibitions and public programmes, education and fundraising, say the Tate.
A press release from the gallery overlooking Porthmeor Beach said: "His interest in current developments within institutional, curatorial, critical and artistic practice will help Tate St Ives build on the legacy of the previous artistic director Martin Clark, who left in autumn this year."

Mark Osterfield, executive director at Tate St Ives, said: "Sam's passion for contemporary arts practice coupled with his interest in the histories of modernism, ideally suit him to lead the artistic vision for our work in Cornwall. "
The new artistic director will start in spring 2014, a challenging time as the gallery moves towards the delivery of Tate St Ives Phase 2 – a major development that will double the gallery display space and providing more learning space.
