THE OLD fire station in St Dennis is to become the new base for search and rescue in Cornwall.

A total of 35 full time volunteers will be based at the station, covering the whole of Cornwall.

Search and rescue team member, Andy Brelsford, said: "It's the ideal location. Close links to the A30 and right in the middle of Cornwall.

"Our lease starts on September 1, and we need to do a bit of painting and making the place look nice. I'm sure the old station will be like our home very soon after we start."

An open day is understood to be on the cards, held in October.

The official opening of the new search and rescue station is set to be held in November.
