Food, not houses: Trust sets record straight
THE LAND’S End Peninsula Community Land Trust (LEPCLT) is hoping to produce food, not houses, at Bosavern Farm in St Just, it has confirmed.
The Trust said it wished to clarify an announcement last week which suggested that the group wanted to secure the starter farm for a new affordable housing development.
Co-chair Rob Pickering said: “We’d like to set the record straight that the trust has not considered this as a possible site for affordable housing.
“The trust is supporting a group of enthusiastic people to obtain the farm on behalf of the community for educational and agriculture/horticultural purposes. The trust is not therefore considering this site for affordable housing or any other form of housing development.”
A group of local campaigners has been trying to stop Cornwall Council selling the Farm, which it hopes to turn into a centre for local food production and education.
However, last month the town council decided it would not support the plans without a robust business case.
But LEPCLT members feel the sale will provide an opportunity for the trust to try to secure it for ongoing community use.
Mr Pickering continued: “It is a real opportunity for the community to come together to produce its own food.
“It has the potential to provide education for young people on related courses or for disabled people to have a sheltered working environment. There could also be a partnership with local pubs, cafes and shops who, by investing in the project, could influence the food produced and benefit from the taste of freshness and local supply.”

“There are two groups here, the old and the new. The old just want an allotment to rent on which they can grow fruit & veg. the new want to save the planet, create a new world, populate a farm with disinterested children, wheelchair access, pc ideas, and bleeding heart slogans, and all sorts else.”
