New homes must be for locals says council
ST JUST Town Council has thrown its weight behind a new affordable homes development in the town – but only if the homes are allocated to local people.
Cornwall Council's planning and regeneration team outlined plans for a development of six homes at Moorland Close in Pendeen to members of the council at their full meeting on Monday.
The development, scheduled for construction in 2013, could be a mixture of rented, intermediate affordable and open market homes.
Cllr Kevin McFadden said he supported the initiative.
But he said he would need a guarantee from the council that the homes would be only allocated to local people in the area.
He said: "We need to make sure this community is sustainable in the future. I think you have got everybody's support.
"We want them (the houses) for 'Pendeenians' or 'St Justians'," he said.
The council voted unanimously to support the housing scheme providing they will be offered to local people and that they are subject to a local letting plan agreement.

“I am genuinely gutted to be loosing the only green space left on Moorland Close! The land earmarked used to have a goal post & swing on it, which where mysteriously taken away last year. No one has spoken to the residents of Moorland Close about these new homes being built!
In my opinion homes are needed, but not at the expense of current tenants! The space available is in no way big enough to accommodate 6 houses either! Total madness as usual!”
