New initiative in Hayle to help keep streets free from dog mess
Dog owners in Hayle are being encouraged to clean up after their pets and are even being given a helping hand from the town council to do so.
A new scheme called Poop the Scoop has been launched by Hayle Town Council which will see free dog poop bags located at various retail outlets around the town.
The initiative lead by Councillor Nick Farrar is in response to the many complaints the town council receive each year regarding dog fouling on the streets and pathways in Hayle.
Mr Farrar said: “As a council we know that the majority of owners do clean up after their dogs, but there are just a few irresponsible owners who clearly show a lack of respect for our town and its residents, and through this lack of respect, cause a great deal of frustration.”

He added that dog mess left on the streets put children at risk while they walk to school as well as adding to the work of local shop keepers who continually have to clean up the street outside their premises.
“Residents are requested to dispose of used bags responsibly, and not just to throw them in the nearest hedge, and are reminded that used bags can be disposed of in any of the waste bins situated around the town, not just dog bins,” said Mr Farrar.
Police community support officers in Hayle can issue fixed penalty tickets for dog fouling and the town council are encouraging members of the public to report to Cornwall Council, via the website, people who fail to clean up dog foul.
Bags are available from the following outlets, Foundry Fruit Veg and Deli, Blewett’s Toy Shop, Mr B’s Ice Cream (Foundry and Copperhouse), Philps Pasty’s ( Foundry Hill and East Quay), Riviera café, Dale@Hayle (Recreation Ground), The Jolly Bodger, Roosters Café, Spar and Trevithick Crescent Shop.
