New principal settles into office
THE NEW term at Truro and Penwith College brings with it a new principal.
David Walrond, the former director of curriculum and quality, has taken on leadership of the college from Jonathan Burnett, who retired this year.

Mr Walrond gained an MA in English at Exeter University and an MBA at Leicester University and has previously worked in further education at institutions in London, Hampshire and Cheshire.
He has been an associate Ofsted inspector and chairman of governors at a school in Cheshire.
Early in his career he lived and worked in Italy for five years, doing jobs ranging from driving a forklift truck to lecturing in English and linguistics at Padua University.
Cricket follower
Mr Walrond, who is married with three sons and has lived in Truro for the past seven years, is a passionate follower of cricket and has a keen interest in classical music and literature.
He added: "I am delighted to have been part of such a successful senior team at the college and, while in that role, to have seen the college grow considerably.
"Following its 2006 inspection the college achieved designated outstanding status and it has merged with Penwith College, where the development of the Penzance campus is now well on the way to completion in 2011.
"The future cannot be about standing still or thinking 'we've arrived' and the college is committed to continuous improvement."
