Mayor Geoffrey Evans helped Wilkinson's chief executive Stuart Mitchell and RNLI mascot Stormy Stan cut the ribbon on Thursday morning.
The shop had been empty for three years and town manager Richard Gates said: "This is a major step forward for the town, especially as the site has been vacant for so long and it has always been the most common question raised regarding the town."
