Newlyners will make their choice at arts festival
“NEWLYN’S Choice” is the appropriate theme chosen for the port’s annual arts festival.
Following on from the success of last year’s Newlyn Arts Festival exhibition, “Art from the Living Room”, when local residents were asked to lend works from their personal collections, this year a wide cross section of people, including publicans, shopkeepers and business owners, have been asked to select a Newlyn-based artist to be exhibited.
“Last year’s exhibition included so many people from the village, not just the artists themselves and it is hoped that this year’s show will continue the community involvement,” said Annie Metcalfe, one of the festival organisers.
In tradition fashion, there will be an evening of celebration on Friday, October 4 with live music and “a little” entertainment from Anthony Frost and Bob Devereux.
As well as what promises to be a dynamic show, events organiser, Les Gillard has put together a week of poetry, prose and music culminating in a film from “Surfers in Action” to be held at Newlyn Art Gallery.
Further details will be published in the Cornishman prior to the Festival or contact Simon at Newlyn Art Gallery 01736 363715 or Annie on 01736 351937.
In addition to these events, during the weekend of October 11-13, artists will open their doors for a celebration of Open Studios.
