Now Newquay is where the art is
AN EXTRAVAGANZA of art in the town is set to be even bigger and better this year.
Newquay Art8 Festival will return again this spring, running for eight days from April 11 to 18.
It was created to celebrate and show off the cultural and artistic activity taking place in the local area.
Activities and events across the town will include live performances, workshops, exhibitions and events covering topics from visual art and dance to crafts, film and photography.

Art8 is teaming up with various partners including The Headland Hotel, Blue Reef Aquarium, Belushi's bar, Rip Curl, Carn Marth, Café Irie and the Griffin pub, who all lent support last year as well.
New partners coming on board this year include The Library Bar and Lounge, Tall Trees nightclub and Newquay Library.
Each year the festival runs an arts prize to support events that bring contemporary arts to the festival and offer something special for the community.
One of this year's winners is local theatre company Bish Bash Bosh, who will bring two free performances of their children's show The Beast Of Bodmin Moor to the festival for families to enjoy on Friday, April 12.
The second is visual artist Sharon Andrew, who will also bring her 40ft installation called Surf Slowed Down on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13.
Both will be showcasing their work at Tall Trees, which is being made in to an arts café for four days of the festival.
Featuring an array of events and exhibitions, it will be open to everyone for workshops.
In the first year of the festival, former Newquay mayor Andy Hannan linked up with Art8 for his mayor's ball.
An artist painted a picture on the streets of Newquay and donated it to the ball that evening to be sold at auction.
Mr Hannan bought it for £450 and the money went to his chosen charity.
"I think it's fantastic and I really enjoyed it last year," he said.
"There are so many events catering for a wide variety of people. It's still in its infancy and it's taking a while for people to recognise what it is but I know they were very pleased with the first event. It will build and build now; the group are so dedicated."
