Newquay crash out of FA Vase in replay at Barnstaple
Newquay were left licking their wounds after crashing out of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Tuesday night with a 5-0 defeat at Barnstaple in a second qualifying round replay.
The Peppermints also had four players booked and manager Alan Carey sent to the stand midway through the second half as Western League division one side Barnstaple cruised through.
Things started badly for Newquay with Sam Stephens opening the scoring after only two minutes and Barnstaple doubled their lead in the 12th minute through Ryan Turner.
For the remainder of the half Newquay gave as good as they got but two goals either side of half-time realistically ended the tie as a contest.
Maskyn Kowai made it 3-0 in the 39th minute and Turner scored his second of the night to extend Barnstaple’s lead eight minutes into the second half.
Tom Rossiter rounded off the scoring 14 minutes from time.
Newquay had been within seconds of beating the North Devon side in Saturday’s original tie at Mount Wise but the visitors scored in the seventh minute of injury time to make it 2-2 and force extra time.
Newquay are back in action on Friday evening when they travel to Penzance in the Throgmorton Cup (7.30pm kick-off).
