SCHOOLS EVENT AT HERON:

Thursday saw Newquay's primary schools doing battle in the annual schools team competition for years 3 and 4. With the almost ever-present wind and rain once again the dome and indoor courts at Heron saved the day.

Each team comprised two boys and two girls and each team played a match against every other team using a "timed" format. This meant that teams tried to win as many points within the time and the team who won the most points over the afternoon would be the winners.

There were some super matches played and all the children played in the best spirit and showed great respect towards their opponents and the sporting traditions of the game and tournament organiser, Heron's Paul Roberts, said all the players were a credit to themselves and their schools and a big thank you to the teachers and parents who also helped the event to run so smoothly.

The County Finals take place at Heron today.
