Newquay: How do we get pride in place?
A RALLYING call has been issued to townsfolk in Newquay to attend a public meeting to discuss the current state of the resort.
The Cornish Guardian reported in depth last year how much of the town's street furniture – from park benches to railing – was not being maintained, with peeling paint and weed-infested pavements.

IN NEED OF SOME TLC: Claire Evans, left, points out the state of this bin in Newquay which is in need of repair, with Gill Moore and Mavis Warman.
Now the Newquay Regeneration Forum Ltd has arranged an open meeting with Cory, Cormac, Cornwall Council and Newquay Clean for March 11 where residents can put their questions direct to the people in the know.
The authorities will answer public questions on the night, and the group is calling on as many residents as possible to attend.

The meeting has been named Pride of Place.
A spokesman for the Newquay Regeneration Forum said they had received many questions from residents ahead of the meeting.
"We've had many questions about the posters, stickers and banners that are left all over the town," she said.
"Certain companies come along to promote their events but don't then take the posters down afterwards.
"What many people would like to know is who to contact about these problems – who is responsible and at which body.
"People want to know exactly who to go to when there are problems in the town.
"We want as many people as possible to come along to this meeting so they can not only put questions to the right people."
She continued: "This is a fantastic opportunity to find out about the general budget cuts and the continuing impact on the council's responsibilities."
The meeting will be held at The Griffin Hotel on Cliff Road, from 7.30pm.

“It would be a real help to residents if Cornwall Council actually carried out its statutory duties by prosecuting offenders. We see the town covered in posters, derelict hotels left empty for years, why aren't Planning and Environmental Health officers taking action against these companies? Cornwall CC takes the opinion that Newquay should fend for itself, suggesting residents volunteer to paint benches and such like themselves - if that's the case, what are we paying our Council Tax for?”
