Nominate a youngster
A COMMUNITY organisation based in Bude is looking to recognise any outstanding young people.
This is the time of year when CATS – Community Action Through Sport – invites local individuals, groups, societies, clubs, teams and youth organisations to put forward names to receive public recognition for the good things they have done in the past 12 months.
For nine years CATS – which is a nationally recognised charity which started in Bude – has been holding an awards evening in the spring at The Parkhouse Centre in Bude. More than 1,000 young people from Bude and the surrounding villages have been publicly thanked for what they have volunteered to do for others.
There is no formal list of the things which qualify for awards but in recent years children and young people have been nominated for helping an older generation learn to use computers and coaching football and rugby teams. They have also provided riding for disabled youngsters, taught primary and secondary youngsters how to play chess, and have arranged and run the Friday Night Splash sessions in Bude in the winter months.
Book 2 nights luxury B&B accommodation at Pentillie Castle between 3rd and 27th June 2013 and enjoy 2 complimentary tickets (adult) to a local tourist attraction. Further details on 01579 350044

Some have been recognised for rescuing visitors from rip currents, planting spring bulbs, painting and decorating village resources, assisting and arranging beach clearance in some of the more isolated coves, mentoring younger children, assisting or helping to run youth groups, including Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and army cadets.
Clubs, societies, parish councils, churches and youth groups will be receiving details shortly but anyone can nominate a child or young person, aged 5 to 19.
A form can be downloaded from the CATS' website www.communityactionthro ughsport.org or you can obtain forms from the CATS' office in Lansdown Road, Bude, just above the Health Shop.
Nomination forms must be returned either to the CATS' office or to Mrs S Marshall, Budehaven Community School, Valley Road, Bude, EX23 8DQ no later than Friday, March 22. The awards evening itself will be held on Tuesday, April 23.
