OAP conned by 'sob story' call

NEWQUAY police are hunting a cold caller who fed a vulnerable pensioner a "sob story" before charging him £69 for a dishcloth.

Four men were spotted knocking on doors in the St Columb Minor area on Tuesday.

It was reported that an Avon sales representative witnessed the scam and chased the cold caller down the street, retrieving £20 that she returned to the pensioner.

Sergeant Reggie Butler, investigating officer, said: "Officers went to the area but these men had already left.

"We think it will only be a matter of time before they return to the Newquay area.
