'Oarsome' effort at charity raft race day
DESPITE the occasional shower, spirits were not dampened as crowds lined Copperhouse Pool in Hayle for the town's annual raft race.
Pirates, vikings and geeks were just some of the costumes on display from the competitors.
This year 12 teams took part in the event, which saw them racing along the regatta pool in an attempt to secure one of several trophies on offer.
More than £550 was raised from entry fees and the raffle, which will go towards the Christmas lights fund.

Jayne Quick, Hayle Decorative Lights chairman, said: "All the community has come together, which is brilliant. Everybody said they really enjoyed the day. We want to keep it going every year."
The raft race is organised by the committee. Following the sad death of former chairman Richard Horwell, they wanted to ensure this year would be a big success.
A special commemorative cup in the former chairman's name was presented to the overall winners Hawaii 5-0, by Mr Horwell's daughter Sharon.
The men's award was won by a family of eight on HMS Thornton, while the Great Gorgeous Geeks from Trevarnon Farm won the women's race.
The best fancy dressed costume was judged by town mayor Jayne Ninnes and went to The Vikings.
She said: "The effort that had gone in to the rafts this year was exceptional.
"Usually there is a clear and obvious winner, but it was really difficult picking the best one."
A special effort award was given to The Rocket Rambos.
John Pollard, councillor for Hayle North, provided a running commentary at the event and announced the winners.
The sponsor-a-light stall, which offered people the chance to pick a coloured Christmas light along King George's Walk, was well received.
Stalls selling home-made sweets and treats along with a barbecue helped contribute to the overall funds raised.
Ultra Sounds Disco provided the sound system for the event and kept crowds musically entertained for the afternoon.
