The identification of trainees deemed to be at risk was considered as outstanding by inspectors, as was the support that those recruits receive.

HMS Raleigh was also praised for the support given to recruits with basic skills needs and other learning difficulties.

Captain Bob Fancy, Commanding Officer of HMS Raleigh, said the base was fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff to give young recruits the best possible start to their military careers. He said: "The most important thing now is not to rest on our laurels and we will be looking at the report to ensure that we maintain these standards and also make further improvements to ensure that HMS Raleigh continues to provide the essential welfare and duty of care for those undergoing training."
