Olympic heptathlete will join charity bike ride across county
OLYMPIC heptathlete Denise Lewis is joining a bid to ride across Cornwall in May and wants other cyclists to come along.
The Pedal for Pounds bike ride is a three-day jaunt from Bude to Land's End.
Also taking part is 29-year-old James Golding, from Rugby, who is in remission from cancer and is cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End.
He is also training for a 3,500-mile ride from LA to Miami in the USA in just 30 days.
His aim is to raise £100,000 for CoppaFeel, a young person's breast cancer awareness charity set up by cancer sufferer Kristin Hellenga and her sister Maren, of Falmouth, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The ride across Cornwall will take place on May 29, starting in Bude. Denise will join the riders on the third day.
Meanwhile Kristin and Maren will ride tandem on the 140-mile trip across the National Cycle Network's Cornish Way.
Maren said: "I love cycling and everyone knows the health benefits associated with exercising and keeping active. We really want to encourage as many people as possible to join our Pedal for Pounds bike ride, not just to raise awareness but to get fit too.
"We're encouraging people to be sponsored to ride with us. It's entirely up to them if they ride the whole three days or the last mile – all support would mean so much."
Denise said: "I'm really excited to be involved with the charity and very much looking forward to joining them on their bike ride."
To take part, e-mail Maren at maren@coppafeel.org
She would also like to hear from any local cycling and health-related businesses who would like to get involved with the event at the finish at Land's End.
