Otter investigation a must before building work begins
A SEARCH for otters has to be made before work can start on building four riverfront houses which have been granted approval in Falmouth.
The scheme for three-bedroom houses in North Parade replaces a previous one for two larger homes which was approved last year. The new plan includes parking for eight cars.
The planning permission from Cornwall Council has 12 conditions attached. One stipulates no development begins until an investigation to assess for the presence of otters on the foreshore within the application site has been carried out and the results submitted and agreed.
If otters are found, a "scheme of mitigation" must be agreed by the council after Natural England indicated the site may be occupied by the mammals. Other conditions state no work can start until a management plan for noise and dust has been approved and work can only take place between 8am and 6pm, Mondays to Fridays; from 8am until 1pm on Saturdays; and not at all on Sundays.
