Oxbridge beckons for the sweet sixteen from college
SIXTEEN Truro and Penwith College students have been offered conditional Oxbridge places – 11 from Cambridge and five from Oxford.
Staff and students have been expressing their delight.
Hopefuls are from A-level and International Baccalaureate programmes, and have chosen a diverse range of subjects including architecture, mathematics, natural sciences and medicine. The college's strong reputation for English has also been upheld, with five students gaining offers to study literature.
Student Freya Glover, originally from Humphry Davy School, will read medicine at St Hugh's, Oxford.

One of the five successful students to achieve offers to read English is A-level student Amber Rose Cowburn, who joined the college after completing her GCSEs at Truro School. Speaking about her Cambridge offer she said: "I am so delighted to get the chance to study English at Emmanuel College. It's such a huge honour and I'm so determined to achieve my offer."
Two students from the college's International Baccalaureate programme to receive offers were Hugh Williams, originally from Redruth School, who hopes to attend Christ Church Oxford to read biological sciences, and Rowan Milligan, originally from Humphry Davy School, who plans to attend Oriel College Oxford to read history. She said: "I am so delighted and very excited about going.
" I never thought I really deserved it, but it's a fab thing to be told. Thanks Truro College, for organising a great Oxford trip this summer and motivating me to go for it despite my initial reservations."
Truro and Penwith College principal David Walrond congratulated the successful Oxbridge applicants, adding: "This year has seen another high number of conditional Oxbridge offers made to students here, despite the fierce competition for places. It is an achievement which reflects several things, including the expertise of subject specialist post-16 staff at this college and the role of our academies and Oxbridge support programmes in honing student talent and developing the necessary academic confidence. But most of all, this high number of Oxbridge offers reflects the fantastic dedication and determination of the students themselves. They really do deserve this success and all our congratulations."
