THE TRURO Half Marathon got off to a flying start this morning with hundreds of runners lined up at the starting line on Lemon Quay.
Organisers at Truro Running Club had hoped more than 600 people would begin the race, buoyed by last year’s London Olympics and the success of athletics heroes such as Mo Farah.
Sponsored by Goundrys Estate Agents, the Cornwall Property Paper and solicitors Charles French & Co, the event sees competitors tackle a 13.1 mile course around the county’s capital.

Starting and finishing among the crowds at Lemon Quay, runners complete a circuit of city centre landmarks, like Truro Cathedral, before heading out on a new route in the countryside around Calenick, Penelewney and Porth Kea.
Traditionally, local residents line the route, to cheer runners up the area’s famous hills.
Race director Diane Boardman said: “We’ve changed the route a little bit this year, to take out a busy road crossing. The new course is even more challenging, and there’s a smashing new woodland section, too. We’re sure people will enjoy it.”
