Party will celebrate lifesaving baby unit
THE PARENTS of Joshua Colledge will celebrate his first birthday with a party in aid of the neonatal unit that saved his life.
To mark his first birthday, parents Laura and Ross have organised a pirate party to raise money for vital equipment for the Royal Cornwall Hospital's Neonatal Unit.
Joshua spent more than two months in an incubator in the unit as he fought to recover from a bleed on the brain and illness caused by his early birth.
Laura said her family owed an "enormous debt of gratitude to the unit" and that the party was their way of saying thank you for what staff did for her son.

"At home, away from my visits to Josh, I battled anxiety attacks but the second I entered the unit I felt calm, strong and at ease again," she said.
"The nurses were comforting, reassuring, compassionate, professional, hardworking and methodical. I often felt he was safer there than if he was still growing inside me.
"They were like your mums at the unit. I never left that hospital feeling he was not better there. I just want other people going through the same situation to feel completely at ease if their baby goes into the unit."
A pirate party will take place on November 10, at the Mermaid Inn in Porth, Newquay. The children's event, between 3pm and 6pm, will include a competition for the best little pirate maid and matey. As well as games and face-painting, there will be a free children's buffet along with a children's disco. Laura – a wedding and events singer and guitarist – is set to perform.
For adults, a raffle begins after 8pm with prizes donated from businesses including a meal for two worth £85 at a local restaurant. This will be followed by live music and a grown-ups fancy dress competition.
Laura said: "Joshua is now doing absolutely fabulously. He's a happy, contented baby and we want to say a meaningful thank you, so wish Joshua a happy first birthday and raise some money for the unit at the same time."
