Since joining the museum in Falmouth in 2009, he has given more than 350 hours a year of his own time, helping to welcome visitors to the museum and share with them the stories of the county he loves.

He said: "The reason I give up my time for free is that I love sharing the wonderful maritime history of this beautiful county with visitors from all over the world. And it keeps me out of trouble. A vote for me is a vote for all the volunteers in museums throughout the country and the fantastic work that they do."

The award recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry and is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to England have a priceless experience.

Malcolm Bell, Head of VisitCornwall, said: "The front line of the tourism industry is vitally important and can have a massive influence on the positivity of the visitor experience.

"It is people like Colin – who go the extra mile and have a true passion for what they do – that put a smile on visitors' faces.

"It makes them want to keep coming back.

"They are the lifeblood of Cornwall's tourism product.

"For Colin to volunteer his time in such a committed and enthusiastic way is truly to the benefit of Cornwall and I would urge anyone with a love for Cornwall to get behind him and vote."
