Truro 10   Penryn 29

Penryn won a tense Tribute Western Counties West local derby against Truro at St Clements Hill to record the double over the city side for this season, reports Bill Hooper.

Penryn enjoyed territorial possession early on, however, it was Truro who opened the scoring with a penalty kicked by fly-half Jake Champion.

The Borough struck back with a well-worked unconverted try scored by wingerAlex Ducker.

Penryn fly-half Jake Seviour increased his side's lead with a penalty shortly before having to leave the fray after picking up an ankle injury.

Truro looked to get back in the game and following a penalty kicked to the corner they worked the ball from the lineout creating a chance for centre Karl Ranscombe to score under the posts. Champion added the extras for a 10-8 lead, which Truro held until half-time.

Early in the second half Matt Horton, on as a replacement for Jake Seviour, missed with an early penalty chance for Penryn.

Truro then missed a golden opportunity to score a try as Champion looked to put his skipper Mike Stuart in at the scoreboard corner but sadly for Truro the ball was spilled.

Instead, Penryn capitalised on a Truro error, which allowed centre Andrew Seviour - who had a fine game for the Borough in mid-field alongside fellow centre Lewis Vague- to run hard into the Truro 22, and his inside pass found skipper Jordan Rose who crossed for the Borough's second try. Winger Alex Ducker assumed goal kicking duties to add the conversion.

Despite good periods of possession and some hard work from their forwards notably No.8 Shaun Roseveare and lock Will Martin, Truro were rocked by two further Penryn scores.

Good work from Vague Jordan Rose and Seviour saw full-back Josh Chambers put away for their third try.

Moments later replacement prop Ethan Pattison burst away to score under the posts. Ducker added both conversions and Penryn had secured a bonus point win to maintain their fine recent run.
