THE PENVENTON Park Hotel in Redruth has been awarded a gold CHEFS award in recognition of its commitment to offering healthy menu options using locally sourced food.

The award means that the hotel will be able to display the distinctive blue logo, which tells customers that it has adopted and maintains a high degree of food safety and standards and provides and promotes a selection of local foods, as well as using healthier cooking methods.

Paola Pascoe, a director of the hotel along with husband David, said: "We would like to say a very big thank you to our executive head chef Joe Lado Devesa, our head chef Ryland Allan and indeed all our staff in helping us achieve this award, and also to Cornwall Council for recognising the importance in what we are trying to achieve here at the Penventon and for the excellent support both environmental health and trading standards gave us while working to achieve this prestigious award.

"We went for this award as we feel the standard of our menus and quality of what is produced together with the healthy choice offered to our customers is second to none and so it was very important for us to achieve gold.

"We are so proud of this award and it will take pride of place in our establishment for all of our customers to see."

Launched in October 2005, the Cornwall Healthier Eating and Food Safety (CHEFS) Awards are awarded by Cornwall Council's food safety officers working in partnership with Eatsome/NHS Health Promotion Service, change 4 life and the council's trading standards officers.

Cornwall Council's environmental food and safety officer Malcolm Ball said: "This is the most prestigious award that we give and it reflects extremely high standards in food safety and hygiene, combined with offering a wide range of healthier food choices, incorporating local produce to the customer."
