Penwith farming outreach worker awarded new Land Rover
A PENWITH farming outreach worker has been awarded a Land Rover through a new charity bursary to help get to rural locations.
Edward Richardson, of Farm Cornwall, a business offering Cornish farmers support and advice based in Long Rock, Penzance, was one of the first five winners to ever receive one of the Freelander 2 vehicles.
The project, which saw 77 applicants, was devised by the Prince's Countryside Fund and the car manufacturer, and sought to award those most in need with the 4x4.
Mr Richardson was presented with the keys by TV presenter Phil Spencer at a game fair earlier this month, and will get behind the wheel in September.

"We applied for it because we felt it would be a good addition to our business," said Mr Richardson, the service's Business Adviser and Rural Outreach Worker.
"We do quite a lot of miles - about 20-25,000 a year.
"The little cars I have had up to date have always ended up being knackered.
"This will make a pleasant change."
Mr Richardson, who gives advice, opinions and other guidance to farmers, mainly covers west Cornwall, though does travel across the county if necessary.
He said he feels he was picked because the work he and his colleagues carry out reflects the ethos of the scheme.
"I think Farm Cornwall fits with what Prince's Countryside Fund and Land Rover want to do," he said.
According to the charity, candidates had to undergo a "rigorous selection process" - proving they will continue to make a long-term, positive difference to their communities.
Victoria Harris, Director of The Prince's Countryside Fund said: "We had some outstanding entries and heard some very inspiring stories.
"We are sure that the candidates we have selected will go on to make a difference."
Mr Richardson will have the Land Rover for a 12-month period.
