Penzance post box turned gold in honour of Olympian Helen Glover
Royal Mail have this morning made good their promise to paint a post box gold in the home towns of any gold-winning Olympians.
Penzance's golden girl Helen Glover secured Team GB's first gold in the London 2012 Olympics with partner Heather Stanning in the women's pair rowing.

This morning Royal Mail officials took to Penzance Harbour with pots of paint and brushes and gave the iconic red post box a lick of under-paint before painting it with gold.
The women will also go down in the record books as the first British women to have ever won gold for rowing.

And within 24 hours of the historic event the Royal Mail marked the stunning achievement by releasing stamps to honour Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.
Moya Greene, Royal Mail chief executive, congratulated the pair on their win. She said: “We’re delighted to be issuing these very special Gold Medal stamps to recognise our Olympic champion UK athletes. This is a first for Royal Mail and we are proud to play our part in celebrating the many victories this summer.
“We will be printing millions of stamps to enable customers to celebrate these sporting successes and I’m sure they will be treasured as unique souvenirs of Team GB’s victories for years to come.”
Glover said in a post-race interview "if you work hard and try your best, anyone can do anything.”
West Cornwall MP Andrew George said "I know that everyone in west Cornwall will be mighty proud of our local girl.
The former Humphry Davy School pupil has previously said "I'm very fortunate in coming from Cornwall and especially Penzance where people have such a sense of community."

“I think that all the athletes representing GB are stars and those that have achieved a medal of any colour have done a fantastic job, whether they are Cornish or otherwise. It is lovely the have sports men and women from your own county winning gold but that should not be treated any differently than any other winner.
I live in Cornwall and love it, the Cornish flag is not being used because the Cornish people in the event are representing Great Britian as a team not Cornwall, it would be a very disjointed team if every member had its own county flag instead of the union flag.
As much as I think Helen Glover did a fantastic job so did other GB Cornish atheletes and I don't see why the post box had to be painted gold in one persons name if at all, surely post boxes are meant to be red, this is the standard and how we are able to spot them easily. I am surprised that the royal mail have allowed one of it's post boxes to be defaced.
I am sure that if Penzance wished to honour Helen they could have found a more fitting way.”

“"Why did they do this?" They done it to highlight the terrific achievement of a CORNISH rower winning an OLYMPIC gold medal.....simple!
"The Olympics does not like cornish people." - a very strange comment to make. The Olympics is an event that brings together thousands of athletes representing almost every nation. It embraces people from different races, religions and cultures worldwide. It does not discriminate against the Cornish.....why should it?
Cornwall is part of England which is part of Great Britain and always will be. So every time you see a British flag being waved, flown or wrapped around an athlete, Cornwall is being represented within that British flag.
Don't use this fantastic sporting event to spout rubbish about how the Cornish are victimised......enjoy it (like the billions of people are worldwide) and get behind TEAM GB!!!!”

The Olympics does not like cornish people.
First they Get Lands End to pain over the cornish on their sign.
Then they ban Cornish Flags from the Olympics
and THEN:::: in the opening ceremony, they play the welsh, irish, scotish and english anthems as a nice choir mashup but no Song of the Western Men! Disgraceful!”
