Penzance move for surf vets' charity
SURF Action, the Cornwall-based military charity that supports combat veterans from all conflicts, is relocating its headquarters to the Long Rock Industrial Estate.
Since moving to Heartlands in Pool last April the charity has been inundated with referrals from veterans and families needing support for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); as a result it has physically outgrown its existing veterans’ centre.
A spokesman for Surf Action said: “We will be able to provide a more thorough and effective service in a building that offers a greater space and opportunity to develop each aspect of the charity.”
To complement the move down to Penzance and the Penwith area, the charity is also developing their beach clinics in Newquay and their satellite hub in Bude, meaning they can also reach more veterans along the length of the Cornish coast from Land’s End to North Cornwall.

Founder Rich Emerson, himself a veteran of the first Gulf War and a PTSD sufferer, said: “Surf Action needs to be accessible to all veterans from all conflicts; providing our services in Penzance, Newquay and Bude means we reach a greater amount of veterans that need our help and put more smiles on faces.”
To help the move to be a real success Surf Action are appealing for financial support to pay for the building materials or offers of the physical materials needed to transform an industrial unit into a comfortable and welcoming space for veterans and their families.
