Perranporth festival to host Cornwall's first beach ceilidh
This year's Lowender Peran, the festival celebrating Cornwall's distinctive cultural heritage, will see the festivities spill out onto Perranporth beach for Cornwall's first ever beach ceilidh.
Dancing will take place on the sand from 11.30am on Sunday October 21, accompanied by a live band outside Perranporth's Watering Hole beach bar.
A ceilidh or barn dance is a social folk dance event. No previous experience is necessary, and visitors can turn up on the day to take part in the easy to pick up dances, or simply enjoy the spectacle.
The event, which is free of charge and supported by Feast funding, will move inside the Watering Hole if it rains.

Lowender Peran starts on Wednesday October 17, and will also feature music, dance, song and story telling.
Highlights include Jamie Smith's Mabon, in concert on Thursday October 18. The performance forms part of the launch tour for the band's new album, Windblown.
On the Friday the festival will also be holding its first silent disco, where the audience dancees to music on wireless headphones. The play list will be put together by Perranporth music producer Perran Tremewan, and will feature standard chart hits alongside re-mixed folk favourites, giving the disco treatment to tracks from local folk groups such as shanty singers Stamp and Go.
On Saturday October 20 Perranporth will come alive with colour, costume, music and dance as more than 300 performers from Brittany, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Cornwall descend on the village. The parade will start at 11.30am on the Green.
In the evening, back by popular demand, will be Crowns, Cornwall's own folk-punk band, fresh from their summer tour including appearances at the Eden Sessions and Bestival.
Lowender Peran runs from October 17-21 in the Ponsmere Hotel, Perranporth.
