A ST JUST transport project which will ferry elderly or disabled people to vital appointments and social events launched its pilot project last week.

The Douglas Woolcock Foundation Trust will provide transport for people in the catchment area of Cape Cornwall Surgery.

A new, specially adapted vehicle, will be used to bring residents to town to do shopping, attend church, visit Age UK as well as to appointments at West Cornwall and St Michael's hospitals.

Dr William Jago, from the trust, said in the summertime, if there was demand, the service would also visit local beauty spots.

He said: "It is the trustees intention to pilot this scheme for six months with a no charge policy, but requesting that those that use the service make a donation towards the cost of fuel. The results of the pilot period will indicate whether the no charge policy can continue or whether a small set charge will need to be levied."
