THE Cornish Pirates will be hoping to avenge their defeat at Sandy Park when they take on Exeter Chiefs on Sunday at the Camborne Recreation Ground (2pm), writes Dick Straughan.

The Pirates went down 22-15 when the sides met at Exeter in November but have the perfect opportunity to exact revenge on the Devon side as they prepare to face the Chiefs twice this month. Exeter will also visit Camborne on February 28 in the British & Irish Cup.

After a frustrating defeat at Goldington Road against Bedford Blues last weekend the Pirates are likely to be at full strength

No.8 Blair Cowan and hooker Dave Ward are expected to earn recalls after being rested, while fly-half Jonny Bentley (flu) and wing Richard Bright (back) are fit again.

High performance manager Chris Stirling said "Defensively I saw what I wanted to see (at Bedford) against a team I knew would pressure us. Now we need to put in as a strong a performance as we can against the Chiefs. We love playing at Camborne, Exeter are on form so we are really looking forward to it."

Cornish Pirates (from): Cook, Jackson, Ireland, Winn, Davies, Bentley, Cattle, Ward, Betty, Cowan, McGlone, Morgan, Evans, Holmes, Doherty, Labuschagne, Bright, Storer, Rimmer, Havili, Gulliver, Franklin, Paver, Pammenter, Brits, Andrew, Franklin, Elloway, Devlin, Prosser, Collins, McAtee.

● The Pirates have announced that five players have signed contract extensions which will keep them in Cornwall up to May 2012. Blair Cowan, Sam Betty, Chris Morgan, James Doherty, and Jonny Bentley have all put pen to paper on new deals.
