THE Cornish Pirates will hope to celebrate Easter with a first league victory for three years over relegation threatened Plymouth Albion at Camborne Recreation Ground on Sunday (3pm).

Not since the final play of the last match at Kenwyn on April 18 2006 have the Cornish Pirates tasted league success over their Devon rivals as Lee Jarvis converted Kevin James' try to seal an epic 29-28 victory. Since then Pirates fans have had to endure four defeats and a draw with the latest setback coming in the form of a 20-12 reverse at Brickfields in November.

However Graham Dawe's troops travel west for this derby on the back of four straight defeats which means that their Division One status cannot yet be guaranteed.

After facing the Pirates, Albion have only one other remaining fixture, at home to Leeds on April 25.

Moseley, who currently occupy the last relegation spot, have games in hand on the Brickfields side and could yet overhaul them.

This will all add extra spice to what should be yet another bone-crunching clash between these two sides but Pirates coach Brett Davey was keen to play down the seriousness of Albion's plight.

He said: "Plymouth haven't had great results of late but rest assured if there is one game they will be up for it will be the Cornish Pirates at Camborne. We are still smarting from losing up there and we know it will be difficult.

"They are a good side but we need to be a lot more constructive than we were in certain parts of the game today.

"It's the next game for us and we are looking forward to it. A lot of players are putting their hands up in the right positions and it will hopefully give us some difficult selection problems for next week.

"Adryan Winnan (hip) is struggling and Ed Fairhurst (back) is struggling too. He was on the bench at Sedgley Park but we couldn't bring him on because he's tweaked his back, the same as Iva (Motusaga) did last week.

"We've certainly got a few injuries at the moment."

This fixture is the first of a trio of home matches to end the season for the Pirates.

Next Sunday (April 19) they entertain Doncaster Knights before hosting London Welsh in their final match on Saturday April 25.
