Pirates snap up Riley from Dragons
THE Cornish Pirates have continued their summer recruitment campaign with the capture of talented Welsh centre Tom Riley from Newport Gwent Dragons, writes Dick Straughan.
The 27-year-old becomes the eighth new face at the club ahead of the start of pre-season training next Monday, and will further bolster a new-look midfield after the signings of Alex Cheeseman from Wasps and former Pirate Junior Fatialofa. Riley began his senior career in his home town of Pontypridd earning Wales caps at U18, U19 and U21 levels. The former carpet-fitter was then snapped up by Cardiff Blues but injuries and competition for places from Wales internationals Tom Shanklin and Jamie Robinson limited him to a handful of games at the Arms Park.

Tom Riley: eighth new face.
He returned to the Welsh Premiership with Newport in the summer of 2008, earning rave reviews as he scored 86 points for the club in 27 appearances.
Riley was rewarded with a senior contract at the Dragons in January 2010 and went on to play 60 times for the Welsh region.
