PLANS to give Lelant a vital village shop again have been passed by Cornwall Council.

The managers of the iconic Badger Inn in the village applied to run a seven-day-a-week shop from an outbuilding at the pub.

Now they say they are waiting for "the right time" to open. Landlord Bertie Bodmer said they had no date fixed for opening the shop at the moment.

Lelant has been without the vital service since the post office closed four years ago.

Mr Bodmer has previously said the shop would stick to staples such as bread and milk at first, but later stock whatever customers wanted.

The move has got widespread support in the village, with more than 40 letters sent to the pub from residents keen on the idea.

The Badger already supplies newspapers to villagers since the closure of the village shop.
