A CRUNCH planning meeting where three major supermarket applications in St Austell were to be heard has been postponed, the Cornish Guardian has learnt.

Cornwall Council has confirmed the strategic planning committee meeting, which was due to consider applications for Coyte Farm, Penwinnick Road and Pentewan Road, will no longer go ahead on Thursday, January 30.

"The chairman of the strategic planning committee, councillor Mike Varney, has now confirmed that due to a delay in the receipt of further information in regard to the applications they will now not be considered at the meeting on January 30," said the council.

"Councillor Varney has stated that he believes it is only right that the members of the committee have as much information in front of them as possible in order for them to make an informed decision."

A St Austell town councillor told the Cornish Guardian he believes the decision will be postponed until the Grimley Report – an assessment of retail impact on the town centre – is published, which he predicts will be late May.

Meanwhile, developers Mercian have released the freshest batch of pictures revealing what the retail park would look like.
