IT may have been wet and windy in Newlyn, but it was warm with humour in St Peter's Church Hall where the players excelled in Michael Cooney's farce.

A full house was welcomed by director Goff Johns, and then it was into a high speed comedy full of false relationships trying to justify a plethora of benefit claims.

Keeping up with the action and plot was tiring for the audience, yet the cast revelled in it,

Adam Bowkett and David Tredinnick were quite brilliant in the lead roles. Adam's mastery, and delivery of the huge number of lines made his performance particularly special. And David, with his exquisite timing, double takes, disbelief when another change of story was dropped on him, even looking the part in skirt and wig, always kept us laughing too.

As the Social Services officer, Steve Kay surpassed himself with facial expressions and hand movements accurately portraying his utter confusion and increasing bewilderment.

Never quite sure

Joan Oliver gave a wonderful version of someone who was never quite sure what was going on.

Dennis Axford threw himself, literally, into his part with vigour and obvious delight.

Peter Byrne and Derek Francis were well cast and Debs Kay gets better every time, with her knowing looks and one-liners.

Lynne Young portrayed the formidable Social Services boss exactly as the audience expected; not going to be fobbed off, wanting explanations, and acting as a super foil to the hilarious goings on around her, while Kathy Kay came in like a whirlwind, joining and adding to the mayhem before she got her man. So, a good set, amazing pace of action, excellent casting and acting made for one of the best St Peter's Players evenings: and that was the view of everyone I spoke to.

It may have had something to do with the director, so congratulations Goff, to you and your team.
