Plenty to look out for as pointing begins
GIRLS ALOUD
Jo Buck was leading the National Ladies' championship last season when her title hopes came to a premature end in the first week in May. Jo broke an ankle in a hunter chase at Cheltenham, but was far enough ahead of Leanda Tickle and Vicky Wade to hold on to her Devon & Cornwall title. We can look forward to this trio being to the fore again.

Last season's Area novice champion Kieron Edgar, is beginning to make a name for himself under rules
THE YOUNG ONES
Point-to-point racing in Devon & Cornwall has provided an excellent stepping stone to a number of young jockeys. Familiar names such as Nick Scholfield, Tom O'Brien, Hadden Frost and Giles Hawkins, to name just a few, have made the transition to National Hunt racing in recent years. Micheal Nolan is one of the best riders we have seen in many years, and the 2010/11 novice title holder already has 20 winners to his credit under rules. Last seasons Area novice champion Kieron Edgar, based with David Pipe, is also beginning to make a name for himself under rules.

ONE TO WATCH
Jamie Bargary is worth keeping an eye on during the new season. This 18-year-old from Cashel, County Tipperary, rode his first winner from a handful of rides at the postponed Axe Vale fixture. Jamie, who gained experience in France in the summer, could follow in the footsteps of Kieron Edgar, since he is also under the guidance of David Pipe.
